Kristallnacht.
70 years ago a series of events unfolded that have meaning still today.
On November the 3rd, 1938, Herschel Grynszpan, a Polish student in Paris, received an appalling letter from his sister Bertha in Hanover emphasizing that the family together with 12K Polish people were surprisingly deported to the Polish border.
Picked up by the Regime's secret police in the dead of night and shipped off to the railhead in a tiny rural stadt of Zbaazyn.
It was the start of Deutschland's Nazi Peace Time drive to drive minorities out of Germany.
"Judenrein" - Deutsch for ethnic cleansing.
Herschel was so fired up about his sister's distress and his own family in extremis - he hopped a bus to the Left Bank in Paris - bought a Berreta with several rounds of 22 calibre shells and used public transport to bushwhack Nazi Germany's handpicked diplomat at the Deutsch embassy in Paris by pumping 5 bullets into Ernst Vom Rath.
French Police quickly apprehended the shooter who had literally shot a foreign charge d' affairs to pieces right before their eyes.
And the story should have ended after a trial.
Only the illegit regime in Germany didn't let the wheels of French Justice click along at all.
Vom Rath passed on to Valhalla on 7 November and Deutsch Nazi's went on a rampage.
The night between 8 to 9 of November 1938 in Germany's major cities: Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Keln, Hamburg, Dresden etc. and was named as the KRISTALLNACHT - the night of the shattered glass.
On the following days, 191 synagogues, thousands of Jewish businesses and houses were burnt down.
Nearly 30K Germans, guilty only of being born jewish were rounded up and the world began to hear of a term several years old in Deutschland - Konzentration Lager
On November the 15th 1938, after the KRISTALLNACHT events, a glorious funeral was held in Dusseldorf for Ernst vom-Rath.
The Zbaazyn deportation story was told by Herschel Grynszpan's father during his testimony in Adolph Eichmann trial in Jerusalem.

Hollaback Girl
"I heard that you were talking trash
And you didn't think that I would hear it
That's right, put your pom-poms down, getting everybody fired up
A few times I've been around that track
So it´s not just gonna happen like that
'Cause I ain't no holla back girl - I ain't no holla back girl"
Anthemesque, this hot hit from the way back machine by one of Great Satan"s Hootchies of the Year last year - the So Cali Grrl "From the land of the bomb ass hemp beat - a place where you never find a dance floor empty" lushious Gwen Stefani and those legs that run all the way up her neck, is actually interpreted as a double entendre of the nonrisque repoire.
Reliably informed in cheerleader operational methodology, the team captain leads the cheer. Like the old "Gimmie an A!" and the other cheer babes respond - or hollaback.
Another interpretation in this tune is the concept of confronting or intervening in events that are aggressively incorrect and require the 'bust' in robust for redressing aggression, brutal intolerance and all the grief they provide.
A Lo Down Ho Down.
Gonna get a touchdown, gonna sock it to youThat's right put your pom poms down, another one bites the dust""Ready to attack, gonna lead the pack
Like recent trash talking certain wanna be Paleocons. In that time traveling world of 1808, outright joy is expressed that a certain cat along with his posse of fully crunk McCaineocons suffered electoral defeat.
Fair enough.
The latest spell these appearantly eccentric, especially unimpressive enchanters of doom and gloom bite and recite is historically weak, fantasy rich, hysterically null and void with a deadly dose of intervention phobia.
This is significant - and a flaw in logic.
Great Satan's critics cry foul that she has overextended herself unnecessarily in other nations affairs.
America's commitment to universal principles are built into Great Satan's founding framing docs. These principles are not debatable - indeed as Alex Hamilton laid it out- "... written in the stars by the hand of God...""These criticisms are completely off the mark. Those who worry about
America's projection of power are overlooking how America got to the position she occupies at this moment in history: the world's dominant political and military, the only nation that will actually go into the world and strike down evil."
Great Britain's Right Honourable (and Right H0T!) Foreign Minister cat David Miliband defends and defines Intervention as universal
"Democracy can take root in all societies. In time, it will. The equal worth of human beings, their equal right to independence and self-government, requires no less.
By default, pseudo naysayers and inappropriate, inhumane makebelieve afflictions like isolationism and intervention phobia are totally retarded along with the unhappy fact of being dangerously dangerous. And all those brave people who are fighting to gain tomorrow the democracies that we, in the lucky, rich nations of the world are blessed with today, deserve our support.
Not just in words, but in deeds."
Ancient PNAC texts and scrolls "rally support for a vigorous and principled policy of American international involvement and to stimulate useful public debate on foreign and defense policy and America's role in the world." Great Satan should "increase defense spending significantly," "strengthen ties to democratic allies," "promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad," and "accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles."
Great Satan's history disproves any notions or commotions hooking only one political party to these time honored concepts.
Great Satan survived and thrived because of and in spite of the War Between The States, The Beatles and President Carter. She can certainly hang out with #44.
Never cool to mock the afflicted - true - the real quiz is that perhaps intervention intolerance says way more volumes about the afflicted than demonizing, dissing American power, her traditionally relentless march to egalitarianism, values, attributes, history and hard won blood stained righteous combat bona fides.
A life time experience where any and all trouble is handled by meetings, friendly give and take - or ultimately a pink slip may mean an inablity to concieve concepts that prove moral relativism is suspect.
In Girl World of the New Millennium, intervention is often the decisive decision:
Like realizing a dearest bf4E is so totally creeped out - catamose - whenever her mom's new live in bf hits the house.
Standing up to bullies in the hood, at the mall or school.
Watching over innocents, a voice for the voiceless.
Americans know the truth, and do not admit alternate truths. Instead of playing the relevancy game Americans play 'Which one of these is not like the other?"
"Oh things for instance things like supremacy of democratic states
overtyrannies, which is just a very simply notion. The fact that there is not moral equivalence between a despot and a democratic leader, that we free people do not inhabit the same plane morally as terrorists"
In an age of WMD crunk caliphates, illegitimate, corrupt, murderous regimes, rocket rich body part collectors and any fanboy fellow travellers (rocket hot or not) there is little reason to even tolerate their existence.
Intervention phobia in favor of ruinous failed states and their 'leaders' who torment their own people, their neighbors, foreign humanitarian compassionates, condone and practice genocide, horrific gendercide on their own sweet girls, indulge in slave trading while their 'nations' suffer pitiful literacy rates, poor sanitation, blinging on missiles, militaries, secret police instead of hospitals, schools, free media or a future for their young people, sprout up militias in innocent civilian rich turf and tend to act out against any democrazie in weapons range is a very tough case to make.

New Era?
As 2008's history making electile dysfunction preps to climax in transition and inauguration it's as tempting as bringing binoculars to the beach to proclaim
"Behold! The New Era!"
Truly, change has busted out of her cocoon - and on a global scale.
Or has it?
CNN's resident Arabist babe Christine Amanpour (ever reckon the 1st syllable of her 1st name drives certain elements she hangs with batty?) escapes into ecstasy
of global proportions.
"The Times of London said Obama had revitalized U.S. politics.
In Germany, Der Spiegel called Obama's rise "astonishing," while the Times of India called Obama an "advocate of strong partnership with
India."
Xine failed to point out celebrations in the rowdy, rocket rich Gaza Strip sparked a small scale skirmish as Little Satan violated precious Palestinian turf in a killer effort to grant rocketeers instant, easy acess to the perfumed gardens of Paradise
Pinching a line from semi free press Al Jazeera (written by an American! What the heck?! ) that proclaims Americans are ill.
"Obama would pursue a much more consultative foreign policy
than Bush, emphasising diplomacy as a tool and making use of traditional US alliance structures and the United Nations.
With the country sick of war, he is unlikely to make any
additional major overseas military commitments."
Welcome to the New Era.
It's also the very same as the Old Era.
Temptations to return to old school failed plots, promises, promiscuity and politik abound.
Advice, unasked yet proffered freely by intelligentsia (and in an especially unhappy case - unintelligentsia) - like Pulitzer Prizer stereophile Dr Fred "Everybody is a retard but me" Kaplan AKA the "Spiritual Emboldener of Al Qaeda's 'Weak Horse - Strong Horse' theory, theorizes a how to manual for Great Satan in the new era:
Essentially, suck up to the collective of thug hugging autocrats, corrupt royalty and illegit regimes at the UN.
Skedaddle out of Iraq ASAP, bling billions more with Pakistan in a hope that robust democrazy and tolerance will rub off and keep the Taliban hiding in the caves. Court Vlad, have tea with Iran's Supreme Leader and bring back Dr Dennis Ross (of the Little Satan - Palestine non profit jawflapping club way back in the Clinton era) to fast track a once and for all peace deal with Fatah, HAMAS and Little Satan.
Dr Ross appears on several short lists for #44 - though to be fair - maybe his advocates have never really made it all the way through "Missing Peace" (Farrar, Straus and Giroux - New York).
Chronicles of trying to establish dialogue, responsibility and honor with nigh unhinged intolerants like HAMAS or semi secular death cult fanboys in Comrade 'Papa' Arafat's entourage took Dr Ross 800 pages to realise that Arafat was a dishonest, corrupt kleptocratic oathbreaker of el bastardo grande proportions.
Theories are just that.
Theories.
Best guesses, hoping for the best and best wishes may not be the best convincing counter for history and current events.
As one of Great Satan's militarized intelligentsia points out:
"Good will is no substitute for strength
"All the conflict-resolution theories in the world aren't worth a single rifleman with an American flag on his sleeve. Aggressors won't be stopped with earnest petitions, and terrorists don't cower at repartee.
"Without our military leadership, our allies would restrict themselves to defense in the global terror emergency. And you can't win on defense. Nature may abhor a vacuum, but terrorists love one.
"The demand for disciplined, capable men and women in American uniforms is only going to increase (while economic problems and campaign promises will threaten defense budgets).
"In this horribly troubled world, our troops remain the ultimate foreign aid."

'Lection Day!
This is it! THE day! Enroute to one of several sacred places here in this corner of Hillbillyland, there was no escaping the fact that voting way more than a right.
It is a priviledge.
Trekking thru spots in Great Satan's history where bloody desperate battles were fought in a most uncivilwar between Americans, streets named after combatants from both sides - Longstreet, Wilder, Crittenden, Sherman is an instant time machine that spans American sacrifice through out her short, rowdy and globe stomping existence.
Voting is the ultimate homage to Americans who stood long watches on ramparts far away. Americans who put their lives on hold to travel far far away to kill our enemies - many never returned - those who did built this awesome nation - uniquely powerful - the only one of her kind!
From Bunker Hill to Midway, from Chickamauga to Fallujah the blood shed in sacrifice for ideals greater than self - ideals that changed and challenge the world was not, is not and shall not be shed in vain.
Trying to maintain a reverent attitude in at the poll's wild atmosphere was short lived.
There was a line. One particular item on the ballot was actually quite local. Paws Paws and preachers alike fussed over it tremendously.
"Liquor By The Drink"
Whoa! Really! Here? HMMMMM.
Local TV cats were on hand with a ginourmous video cam the size of the friendly end of a .50 caliber machine gun. The semi hot 'nouncer cat worked his way down the line - asking everyone about that particular issue.
"And you Miss, 1st time voter? Are you excited?"
Taken by surprise by the camera's bright light - a squeek and a nod were acknowledged.
"Are you supporting 'Liquor by the Drink?"
"Uh, yeah. I'm tired of having to drive into Chattanooga to get liquored up all the time"
No one was amused.
Then, it was time. All bona fides intact - just moi and the machine.Deep breath.
And one more Georgia Peach got her electoral cherry popped.

Price Of Primacy
So this great imperial democracy of ours has been financing its deficits, and its consumer society, with the savings of the sovereign wealth funds of China, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
Great powers throughout history, we know, were creditor nations, whereas ours is the quintessential indebted society. We could hear the gloating of America's critics and enemies as soon as the subprime loan crisis descended upon us.
From Malaysia to Venezuela, and from Europeans we had badgered about their brand of a capitalism more regulated than ours, there were unsparing critics who savored this moment. For them, we had gotten our comeuppance. Our Masters of the Universe, with their financial "derivatives" and new "instruments," were only pretenders.
There can be no doubt that we were due for our moment of reckoning. But Edward Gibbon wannabes should proceed with caution. It is not yet time to pen The Decline and Fall of the American Empire. Rome was long dead and buried when Gibbon, working in London, published his first volume of The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire in 1776.
The destiny of the American empire is still unfolding. The bailout package, a staggering $700 billion, is only 5 percent of our national output; the country could afford it. While some may seek to write the obituaries of the American imperial republic, a survey of universities placing in the top 500 globally, conducted by Shanghai University, gave the United States a huge lead in such institutions: 159 versus 31 in Japan, 30 in China (the data include Hong Kong and Taiwan), and 2 in India.
For all the talk about the rise of China and India, these societies, long mired in poverty and squalor and handicapped by dominant traditions of inequality and caste, are in no position to inherit the American place in the order of nations.
They lack the openness of the United States, its sense of obligation to other lands, its willingness to defend the global order.
Americans know that the alternative to the American order in the world is not the hegemony of China or Russia or India but rather outright anarchy. The Chinese, shrewd about the ways of the world, acknowledge this. They are content to work and prosper, and move large numbers of their people out of poverty, under American primacy and tutelage. The Chinese hold well over a trillion dollars in American treasury securities. They are not about to bring the house down. The Chinese know Asia's bloody history.
American hegemony has been benign, and the alternatives to it are infinitely worse.
Likewise in the volatile Persian Gulf: The commerce of that vital region and the traffic of its oil depend upon the American Navy. No one in that tinderbox wants a Pax Iranica, and the Indians and the Europeans are not contenders to assume what has been America's role.
Critics of American primacy in the world often bemoan America's ways abroad. A "torture narrative" dwells on the transgressions committed at Abu Ghraib by some of our soldiers; books filled with outrage tell about the war fought in the shadows against al Qaeda and its affiliates. Pollsters return from Karachi and Cairo with numbers that demonstrate our alienation from public opinion in these places.
We may not fight every "war of liberation" in every corner of the Earth, but from the Balkans to Afghanistan and Iraq, history bears witness not to America's heavy hand but to its willingness to mount wars of rescue. America's embassies are besieged by those who dream of a new life on American soil.
It is the fate of great, universal powers to be both loved and derided.
But no prettier or more merciful and benevolent alternative to America's leadership is anywhere over the horizon. Save for the most virulent of America's enemies and critics, the world fully knows its need of America's protection.
We no doubt will have to persuade nations in Europe and Asia to pay for the order afforded them by an American security umbrella.
The price of our primacy has risen.
