Nazi time Deutschland literally fought to annihilation -- until there was literally no country left to defend.
The Third Reich - she died kicking and screaming, finally crashing down in an orgy of pulverized, burning cities and a river of blood — civilian and military, German and non-German. Military history knows no year quite like 1944 -45 and if lucky, will never see another.
On May 7th the surviving ruling remnants of the once powerful Dritten Reich finally screamed "GOD! PLEASE! STOP!"
May 8th is Victory In Europe Day.
The legacy of VE Day is with us still. Commonwealth Russia's paranoia about her near abroad - French, Polish and Russian fears of a re hooked up, riled up rowdy Deutschland and there never could have been a European Union - let alone a re unified Germany without Great Satan's will power, staying power and fire power.
And VE Day would not have been possible without Great Satan, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and the Russian Red Army's incredible ability to absorb horrific losses, to bounce back and win.
Happy VE Day!

No surprise - after all - seriously thinking ppl never seriously bought into all that pivot posse
focus on Collectivist China"s not so peaceful looking rise.
The very notion that the world’s global superpower should ever “pivot” is a false one. America cannot afford to pivot. Pivoting by its very definition means that you are focusing on one area while neglecting another. The problems in Europe, the Persian Gulf, the Middle East more generally, and the rest of the world will not disappear because we pivoted away. In fact, our neglect just assures they will all worsen. We can’t fix everything or even most things, but we can often keep everything from going to hell in a handbasket.
America remains the indispensable nation. The world’s, as well as our own, peace and prosperity rest on Great Satan remaining engaged throughout the world. America does not pivot. Being a global superpower, and usually a force for good in the world, means staying fully engaged everywhere. When we have failed to do that in the past, the result has always cost us dearly in blood and treasure.
China will not be influenced by words. It is not cowed by soft power or even smart power. It does, however, understand the hard power of military might. The recent Army War College's "Future of Great Satan"s Grand Strategy" conference at the Army War College sweetly ignored Pivot
The new safe word as Great Satan gets all her ducks lined up is - wait for it - 'rebalancing."
See, Rebalancing, by design -
Encompasses two separate processes – the military is rebalancing its global assets from other regions to Asia, as well as rebalancing within the Asia-Pacific region, reducing the concentration of forces from northeast Asia to a more widely distributed focus throughout the entire region.
The lack of Chinese political and security transparency does, however, complicate issues by deepening uncertainties regarding China’s goals and means. Above all, it remains unclear how committed Chinese leaders are to maintaining freedom of access to the global commons. They appear to have a 17th century view of national sovereignty in a 21st century world, where leaders accept they must sacrifice some of their national freedom of action for the greater common good of international peace and prosperity.
Perhaps - yet Great Satan"s Arc of Allies just this side of 1st Island Chain are living in a very tough Chinese Puissance hood
China is, simply, too big and strong, and–the essential point–too vitally important economically to all Asian countries, including Japan, to be challenged on its core interests and objectives. This reality puts Japan in a tight and uncomfortable spot as Great Satan indulges the dangerous pretensions of third tier actors in Southeast Asia.
For Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines, now engaged in tense standoffs with China in disputed claims to presumed energy rich undersea territory in the Spratly Island chain, Great Satan‘s expansive rhetoric and deployments encourage boldness, if not recklessness. In a more natural and naturally stable future Asian order–one Nippon clearly sees coming, even if DOD and 44 do not–these countries would be accepting Chinese suzerainty and negotiating for whatever concessions China might offer in exchange for ceding their territorial claims.

"Realists will always find an excuse to ignore dissidents and dismiss their fight for freedom and liberty. Unfortunately, what these realists see as sophistication not only is amoral, but actively undercuts Great Satan"s long-term security."Can anyone seriously dispute this?

"Rubin's formulation elevates the unfortunate trade-off that can result from a realist approach as somehow the central, animating principle. In fact, it would be like saying that mass civilian death, torture and population displacements are the "core" of neoconservatism since that is what their policy produced in Iraq and would likely produce if U.S. "leadership" were exercised in places like Syria. But I wouldn't argue that such maladies are neoconservatism's "core" - since I don't believe neoconservatives are bloodthirsty sadists. Though, if I were a neoconservative, I certainly would be careful about throwing charges of "amorality" around. "Avengers Assemble Greg!!
Better compare notes with Heilbron who gleefully makes it - Kissingerian/Obamaism - cold calculating and utterly amoral:
44 gives off every sign of taking coldly antiseptic positions in foreign affairs. Again and again, 44 has dismissed the notion that he should get involved in the internal affairs of other countries. The Arab Spring? He viewed it with caution. Libya? He tried to lead from behind. Syria? He wants nothing to do with it.
The administration wanted to divest itself of a problem and thought it was perhaps carving out a deal that would allow Chen to live safely in China. The "agreement" it struck with China may not be as weak as commonly assumed, though it could also prove entirely pyrrhic. If Chinese security forces were to attack Chen or his family, the country would suffer a public-relations disaster abroad. Still, once the hubbub dies down, Chen will likely be at the mercy of Chinese officials. In any case, Obama—and Clinton—gave every sign of trying to wriggle out of the Chen affair with as little publicity as possible. Instead of seizing upon it to upbraid the Chinese, they soft-pedaled it, barely acknowledging that he was even residing in the American embassy in Beijing.Pic - "Escape is never the safest way"

Everybody loves the baby!
As the baby service - i.e., the youngest branch of Great Satan's big stick - USAF actually has an awesome if not readily recogged pedigree. No Midways or Guadalcanal Chosin Reservoir Valley Forge Chickamaugas.
What ev - truth is - the spiritual great grandsons of the cats that literally bombed das Dritten Reich into a mudhole, clawed Luftwaffe out of the sky, suffering horrendous losses on desperate raids at Regensburg avec Schweinfurt and Ploesti did way more stuff than making 'flak', "shot down in flames", "bail out" slang au courant or getting Ray Bans into highly desirable fashionable all weather eyewear.
"...In many ways, the Air Force is a victim of its success. During Cold War, it was inconceivable that Great Satan could deter or contain the Soviet Union and its proxies without an overwhelming air-power advantage. From the iconic Strategic Air Command ( "Peace is Our Profession - War is just a Hobby" - nicht wahr?) to the gritty Tactical Air Command, from missileers to homeland-defense squadrons, the Air Force provided an iron umbrella over America’s global interests."
Facing “profound challenges” and relying on “low-cost and small-footprint approaches” - shall Great Satan maintain her hyperpuissant ability to project power in areas in which her access and freedom to operate are challenged?
Not without total air dominance sir!
Lost among civie leaders, and maybe within bits of the Air Force herself, is the understandment of strategic airpower and her hot role playing in doing Great Satan's national - whoa - make that internat'l - security policies.

Under current plans Air Force and Navy will see their qualitative and quantitative air edge over competitors shrink, as they lose airplanes, operate an aging force, and face greater threats from adversaries.
Already the functions of the Air Force underpin everything America’s Joint Force does, from surveillance to transport, and from close combat to cyber defense. Airpower advocates point to the sea- and land-based air destruction of Saddam Hussein’s military in the 1991 Gulf war, the 1999 Allied Force air campaign against Yugoslavia, and last year’s action in support of the Libyan rebellion as proof of how airpower can overcome an enemy’s order of battle, command and control, and warfighting spirit. At the same time, airpower dominance allows us to deploy minimal numbers of combat ground forces and reduces civilian casualties and collateral damage.
The success of Western airpower in recent wars, however, had a foreseeable result: Potential adversaries are investing in systems that prevent access to their airspace. During the 2008 Russian invasion of Georgia, the Air Force faced a Russian air defense “no-go zone” that it could not penetrate or could have penetrated only at unacceptable cost. The lesson is simple: To survive an attack on your homeland or forces, deny Great Satan control of the air.
Russian-made sophisticated multi-layered integrated air defense systems (IADS) present the greatest threat. These comprise rapidly deployable and movable surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) and launchers, engagement and acquisition radars, over-the-horizon radars, high-speed data links and computer networks, variable wave radio frequency transmitters, and the like. The most advanced systems can track and engage targets out to 250 miles, thereby pushing Western air forces farther out from enemy territory. The missiles an adversary can field will almost always outnumber the planes that the Navy and Air Force can put in the air. These IADS are already deployed by China and Russia, and countries such as Iran and North Korea continue to invest in air defense systems. Even older model mobile SAMs can be lethally accurate and difficult to destroy.
In addition, advanced Russian and Chinese tactical fighter aircraft, such as the Sukhoi Su-30 and its variants, and one day fifth-generation models like the PAK-FA or J-20 can provide a formidable air-to-air capability that will interdict U.S. planes far away from the field of battle or critical command and control nodes. These integrated defenses will threaten U.S. military planners with the prospect of unacceptable losses. Indeed, the likelihood of inflicting massive casualties on American ground troops and air forces may well serve to deter American intervention in the first place.
The bad news for the Pentagon is that it has few arrows in its quiver. Not only will the Air Force shrink by 500 planes from previous plans, but existing IADS in Russia and China already may prove impermeable to all U.S. airplanes except the F-22 stealth fighter and B-2 stealth bomber. Older U.S. fighters, such as F-15s, F-16s, and carrier-launched F-18s, would be at high risk if tasked with penetrating such airspace or destroying such IADS. And despite superior training, our pilots will be coming up against increasingly modern and advanced fighters in U.S. warplanes many of which are 30 years old.
There will be only up to 140 combat-capable F-22s, after the Obama administration and Congress killed production of the plane in 2009. It is unclear, moreover, how survivable the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will be in heavily contested airspace, given its slower speed and constricted performance relative to the F-22. Our few B-2 bombers—we have only 20 of them—operate from extreme intercontinental distances, thus reducing the number of sorties they can carry out against multiple targets. As for standoff weapons such as the Tomahawk cruise missile, it is a needed part of the arsenal, but cannot be retargeted once launched, and thus is of less use against mobile SAM launchers. Nor does the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) revolution change things, as today’s remotely piloted drones cannot survive in highly defended airspace.
If 44"s administration wants to rely on airpower for future military success, then the already delayed and increasingly expensive F-35 must prove to be survivable within the IADS envelope; if not, then the Pentagon should trim the planned number of F-35s and restart the F-22 line (despite the cost), further enhancing the F-22’s air-to-ground attack capabilities. The Air Force must also build a stealthy and survivable next generation Long Range Strike Bomber in sufficient numbers (at least 200) to carry out any global mission. The military also needs to invest in better electronic warfare capabilities, such as that represented by the Navy’s EA-18G Growler. And, as the recent loss of an unmanned spy drone over Iran showed, we need to develop better advanced stealthy remotely piloted aircraft for reconnaissance and attack missions and electronic jamming.Warcraft and warfighting is getting way more risky as uncool, unfree and unfun illegit regimes sex up their forces. If Great Satan wants to retain the ability to respond or act out successfully to global chiz and crises with a slimmed down and more cost-effective force, then our leaders must recognize that maintaining control of the air is the starting point for Great Satan's military supremacy.

And, while aQ may or not be destroyed, enroute to destruction or shape shifting into sump else (truly who can say?)
Pakistani Spring for one!
One new teazy twist is courtesy of Liquidation Day"s Legacy is the Pakistani public’s unexpected turn against PAK military. Popular anger at Great Satan for swooping into the country to kill bin Laden was matched by outrage that the military was caught sans trousers by Great Satan"s commandos.

"The architect of 9/11, the murderer of thousands of innocents, and one of the most barbaric figures on the face of the earth has finally been taken out. This is a great day for Great Satan and for the free world, and a message that the enemies of freedom will be hunted down. It is also a powerful reminder of the determination of the West to strike back against those who seek to threaten it. "OBL was a supervillian LOL. No doubt hajing in the perfumed Gardens of Paradise with m"Hammed Atef having a shrieking good time perhaps.

"Egypt is a case in point: This has been a year of mostly nonviolent democratic revolution. Despots @ Large
Despotries!
Or, more better understandinly nom d"guerr"d as despots -the absolute rulers of despotries.
Even the most depraved realpolitik realists know the set list of all the cool stuff despots provide
Also a wonderfully op to think out loud about despots and war criminal enablers waiting their day in court.
IN CUSTODY
Cote d’Ivoire
The fourth president of the Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo is currently on trial on four counts of crimes against humanity that he allegedly committed after refusing to recognize the results of a 2010 presidential election, and deploying the use of force against those who subsequently challenged him.
Libya
Muammar Gaddafi's eldest son, Saif Al-Islam Qaddafi, is in a mountain-top detention center in Libya waiting to be handed over to the ICC. The Court has charged him with being an indirect perpetrator on two counts of crimes against humanity for his role in the 2011 Libyan war. However, it’s not yet entirely clear whether he will be tried by the ICC, or rather, by a national court in Libya, as he is said to prefer.
Last year, the ICC issued a warrant for the arrest of Abdullah Al-Senussi, a colonel of the Libyan army, for crimes against humanity. Considered Muammar Qaddafi’s right hand man, he was arrested at an airport in Mauritania in March.
Sudan
Abdallah Banda Abakaer Nourain is awaiting trial for his role in the Darfur conflict, in which he allegedly attacked African Union peace keepers. He is charged with three counts of war crimes.
Saleh Jerbo is awaiting trial for three war crimes related to raids on peacekeepers during the conflict in Darfur.
Democratic Republic of Congo
Germain Kantanga, more commonly known as Simba, is the former leader of the Patriotic Resistance Force—a political party and militia force based in the northeast part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and active in that country’s ongoing civil war. In 2007 he was surrendered to the ICC and put on trial for six counts of war crimes and three crimes against humanity. Among the charges: sexual slavery and using children to engage in war and hostile activities.
Mathieu Ngudjolo Chui a former senior commander of the National Integrationist Front and the Patriotic Resistance Force was similarly charged with murder, sexual slavery and using children to engage in violent hostilities in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s civil war.
Central African Republic
Jean-Pierre Bemba is accused of leading his militia group, the Movement for Liberation of Congo, into the neighboring country of the Central African Republic, and allegedly murdering and raping civilians. His trial began in November 2010 where he faces two counts of crimes against humanity and three counts of war crimes.
Kenya
William Ruto, a former minister in the Kenyan government and candidate in the upcoming presidential election, was indicted by the ICC in January for crimes against humanity in the ethnic violence that ensued following the disputed 2007 Kenyan elections.
Head of operations at Kass FM, a radio station in Nairobi, Joshua Arap Sang is currently being tried by the ICC. He is charged with crimes against humanity perpetrated in the aftermath of the Kenyan post-election crisis.
Uhuhu Muigai Kenyatta, former Deputy Prime Minister, was indicted for crimes against humanity in January, 2012 for his role in the 2007 crisis.
Francis Kimmi Muthaura, former Head of the Kenyan Public Service, is charged as an indirect co-perpetrator of crimes against humanity in the post-election crisis of 2007.
AT LARGE
Uganda
Perhaps the most famous member of this list, Joseph Kony is currently wanted by the ICC for the atrocities he committed as leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, a militia that once operated in Uganda. The charges include twelve counts of crimes against humanity including murder and sexual-enslavement, and twenty-one counts of war crimes, including the use of child soldiers.
Joseph Kony’s right-hand man in the LRA, Vincent Otti is being sought by the ICC for eleven counts of crimes against humanity and twenty-one counts of war crimes.
The ICC charged Okot Odhiambo, the deputy army commander of the LRA, with two counts of crimes against humanity and eight counts of war crimes. Odhiambo allegedly tried to defect from the LRA and negotiate a return to Uganda in 2009. He is still reportedly at large and wanted by the ICC.
Dominic Ongwen was charged with three counts of crimes against humanity and four counts of war crimes for his involvement as a brigade commander in the Lord’s Resistance Army. In 2005, he was incorrectly reported dead.
Sudan
Omar Hassan Ahmad Al Bashir is the current president of Sudan. In 2008, the chief prosecutor of the ICC called for an arrest warrant to be issued against Bashir, citing crimes committed against humanity, war crimes, and genocide in Darfur. But the Sudanese government, which was not part of the treaty that created the ICC, refused to hand Bashir over. Then in 2009, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Bashir—the first time that a warrant was issued for a sitting head of state—and charged him with war crimes and crimes against humanity, though not with genocide. A second arrest warrant charging him with genocide was issued in 2010.
Ahmad Harun, a former Sudanese minister, is currently wanted by the ICC for twenty counts of crimes against humanity and twenty-two counts of war crimes in relation to the conflict in Darfur.
Ali Kushayb, former leader of the Janjaweed militia in Sudan, is sought by the ICC for twenty-two counts of crimes against humanity and twenty eight counts of war crimes in Darfur. A witness of the crimes describes Kushayb’s forces torturing villagers by methods such as pulling out their fingernails.
The current Minister of National Defense for Sudan, Abdel Raheem Muhammad Hussein, is accused of seven crimes against humanity and six war crimes. On March 12, 2012 the ICC issued a warrant for his arrest.
Democratic Republic of Congo
Bosco Ntaganda is the alleged former Deputy Chief of Staff for FPLC, an armed militia group operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is sought by the ICC for the recruitment and deployment of child soldiers in that country’s civil war.

Despotries killed more of their own citizens than foreigners. Despots caused the refugee flows; despots caused the poverty; despots caused all of the problems of the 20th century.< See,
Despotries are the root of all of our problems. They are together and individually the major security threat to Great Satan, to their neighbors, and to the world.
When Liberian dictator Charles Taylor was convicted by the International Criminal Court this week of committing, aiding, and abetting crimes against humanity in Sierra Leone’s civil war, it was widely regarded as an overdue act of justice.
