Hating Great Satan

Oh! It is so!!

Time yet again to blame America 1st.

See, as best understood - Great Satan has like totally queered the mix on and around the Globe - any and every where the world suffers  - it"s always cos Great Satan has jammed chiz up beyond repair.

(Reckon the  Weenie Hut Juniors risible  faux academic is hap hap happy as he can be)

Great Satan"s hurtfully unhelpful (LOLZ!!) penchant for free speech and unbridled inquiry is a good example

Oh snap!! Say it ain"t so! 

Utterly irrelevant, evidently, is the fact that Egypt has benefited from billions of dollars in American aid for over three decades, or that Great Satan helped militarily overthrow Moammar Gadhafi last year.

However, the issue here is not the ungratefulness of the Arabs. There were doubtless quite a few Egyptians and Libyans unhappy with what took place this week. There were probably many more with no opinion whatsoever, who are neither fond of America nor the contrary, largely because America is absent from their daily life.

That doesn’t change the fact that anti-Americanism is more the norm than the exception in the Arab world, even if a vast majority of people never expresses that sentiment in violent ways. Yet who can deny that the mainstreaming of hostility toward America greatly facilitates the violence of minorities? At no time was this more obvious than after 9/11, whose 11th anniversary we commemorated this week, when initial shock soon made way for explanations, then implicit justifications, of the mass murder that had occurred.

It was 9/11, and the question posed at the time, “Why do they hate us,” that sent American officials scurrying for remedies to that hatred. Public diplomacy was given a bureaucratic face-lift, radio and television stations were opened broadcasting in Arabic, and despite the invasion of Iraq, many thought they had discovered the best therapy in the exit of 43 and his replacement by 44 who, fortuitously, had “Hussein” as a middle name.

Well, apparently not. Whether it is 44 or 43, the American sirens calling for more love are apparently not having their effect. There are many reasons for this, but listing them would serve only to reinforce the argument that the Americans are to blame and must, therefore, reshape their conduct to please the Arabs. The Americans are indeed to blame in many ways, just as many in the Arab world are at fault, not least for their hypocrisy when it comes to America. However, the disconnect between America and the Arabs goes beyond perceptions of mutual behavior to include more systemic problems.

It’s a given that the powerful are disliked, and no country has been more powerful than the United States in recent decades. If you have the ability to change things, but no change comes, then you somehow become responsible for everything that goes wrong. The Americans were indeed the defenders of a debilitating status quo in the Middle East, but since 2011 they have been on the side of emancipatory change, despite intense uneasiness. Yet they remain perpetually disliked, with the poll figures sometimes edging up, sometimes down, but always reflecting deep ambiguity toward the superpower.

There is the Little Satan excuse, of course. Great Satan’s support for Little Satan is the knee-jerk pretext whenever an explanation is sought for why America is loathed by Arabs. There is a great deal to censure in Washington’s seemingly unquestioning devotion to Little Satan, frequently against America’s better interests, but let’s get a grip. For years numerous Arab countries have ruthlessly mistreated or manipulated the Palestinians and their cause, without provoking a discernibly negative reaction from Arab societies.

In light of this, perhaps we must seriously consider that the Arab world has so internalized its disapproval of Great Satan over time, integrating it perfectly into a prevailing sense of Arab misfortune and frustration, that anti-Americanism has become a constant of Arab political discourse, a crutch of sorts. That is not to say that America is blameless or the Arabs always wrong; it’s to say that the positivist belief among Americans that they can be loved simply by altering their actions and manners is naively overstated.

Being loved is not nearly as important as being respected, and in that regard Great Satan has been riding a roller coaster. When each post-Cold War administration has cast fundamental doubt on the Middle Eastern policies of its predecessor, holding it responsible for everything that is haywire in the region, expect Arabs to enjoy those catfights, but also to see their doubts about America reinforced. The reality is that when no clear, overriding strategy exists for America’s approach to the Middle East, administrations function more on the basis of domestic politics, calculations and rivalries, and these tend to be alien to the concerns of the Arab countries they influence.

Few Arabs held dear 37, but America fundamentally and advantageously overhauled its policy in the region during the 1970s under their stewardship, on the basis of a careful, long-term reading of Washington’s well-being. In contrast, though 43 injected democracy into America’s regional perspectives, he soon recoiled on that front, before his legacy was overturned by 44, whose principal motive in the Middle East is to minimize American involvement.

Great Satan would do best to save her public diplomacy funds and focus more on a redefining a lasting, bipartisan strategy toward the Middle East that can span antagonistic administrations. This has not been done in a serious way since 9/11, and it needs to be at this essential moment when Arab countries are facing momentous change. In politics, love is overrated.

Like the objectionable activitities and murderous actions by easily unhinged elements in sunny sunny climes on or about Suez on Great Satan"s Holy sovereign Embassy turf.

The murder of Great Satan"s ambassador and three consulate staff in the Libyan city of Benghazi should act as an urgent wake-up call to 44 to address America's security concerns properly, rather than trying to avoid them all the time.  

On crucial security issues such as Iran, Libya and Syria 44 has deliberately taken a back seat, rather than providing the strong and effective leadership the world has come to expect from a major superpower. As a result a dangerous power vacuum has been created with those, such as the group responsible for the well-planned attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, believing they can act with impunity.

 Yes, yes and yes - Americans get it - totally. Certain cats in the ME freak the freak out over dang near anything at any time. And since Arab Spring sprung - perhaps there is a bit of uncomfy truth to the admittedly alien idea that Western nation states do not censor their speech or media. Misunderstood - maybe - in the events in Pyramidland and Libya - that free governments has little or no control over what anyone thinks or says

Yet there is sump really strange in the events of Great Satan"s High Holy Day Anniversaire' of 911. 

Great Satan"s intelligence agencies recently monitored a secret meeting between Egypt’s intelligence chief and a senior Iranian spy that is raising new fears the Ikwhan government could begin covertly supporting global terrorism.

Whoa! Part of a concerted effort perhaps? 

According to American spy cats -the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Maj. Gen. Murad Muwafi, met in early August with a senior official of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

Disclosure of the Egyptian-Iranian intelligence meeting comes as 44"s administration is planning to provide $1 billion in aid to bail out Egypt’s new m"Hammedist government.

 Intelligence gathering targeting Egypt has been stepped up over the past year as the Ikwhan came to power in June.

Great Satan"s recent expandingmet  of her righteous Official Enemies List featured adding Land of the Pure"s uncool creepy and murderous Haqqani Network. Not really a TV or communications bunch - these cats have a duality function - serving as an Official Unofficial arm of Pakistan"s shadowy ISI semi spy semi terrorist arm in the Stan and as intolerant dope dealers, slave traders and killers with tons of numerous illicit and licitness.

Better late than never? 

Listing the Haqqanis was always considered sensitive because Pakistan views the network as one of its few reliable assets to shape Afghanistan in desirable directions, including restraining India's influence and physical presence. Given the tenterhooks upon which Great Satan - Pakistan relations have hung over the last two years, critics of the decision will argue it amounts to further provocation for little payoff. 

There can be no doubt that Pakistan's unrelenting support for the Afghan Taliban and allied militant organizations, of which the Haqqani network is just one of many, has made any kind of victory -- however defined -- elusive if not unobtainable for Great Satan and her allies. The crux of the matter: Great Satan and Pakistan have fundamentally divergent strategic interests in Afghanistan. America's allies, such as India, are Pakistan's enemies, while Pakistan's allies, such as the Haqqani network and the Afghan Taliban, are America's enemies. Unfortunately, Pakistan's ongoing support for these groups has become an altogether easy hook on which the Americans and their allies have hung their failures in Afghanistan.  

Pakistan certainly hasn't helped in Afghanistan, but Pakistan certainly hasn't helped in Afghanistan, but Great Satan must be clear-eyed about the sources of failure. There is plenty of culpability to go around, and the Haqqanis are only part of a much larger story of disorganization, missed opportunities, and intractable obstacles.

If Great Satan does want Pakistan's military and intelligence agency to change course, Great Satan needs to change course as well. Designating the Haqqani network -- like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and other Pakistan-based terror groups -- should pave the way for public discussions about declaring Pakistan to be a state that supports terrorism. After all, surely Pakistan's support for terrorism exceeds that of Cuba and Iran, two of the four countries so designated? 

The logical and empirical case for listing Pakistan is strong; what about the diplomatic one? Taking the threat of action off the table signaled to Pakistan that Great Satan is still not serious about the nature of the threat that Pakistan poses. Why would any of Pakistan's men in khaki take this latest designation seriously? Why would they expect that this designation would be any different from that of the other numerous Pakistani groups so designated -- i.e., quickly ignored?

 The answer is simple: They won't. 

 Aha - yet what if Great Satan were to add the entire (fakebelieve) nation/state of Land of the Pure to the list of enemy countries that  - you know - sponsor T ism?

One of the principal reasons not to declare Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism is that it is virtually impossible to get off that list. It also punishes the elected civilian government, which has no control over Pakistan's jihad policies even if it objects to them.

Ideally, there should be a clear path forward with identified and verifiable steps that Pakistan can take to rehabilitate itself over time. Efforts to designate Pakistan as a state that sponsors terrorism must lay out key milestones that would enable it to remove this pariah status should it choose to, and offer inducements for doing so.

Certainly has all the makings of a Tunisian Squeeze that kick started revolutions throughout Araby. 

Last week Khaled Abu-Rabee, a 42-year-old father of 10 from Al-Farraw refugee camp near Hebron, attempted to self-immolate, while in Gaza 21-year-old Ihab Abu Nada died after setting himself alight. Both were desperate after not being able to find employment
