The ultimate in attention magnets, flaunting, fronting, posing and obviously ignoring those OMG! Lookin' like you was on the menu! looks.
Turning heads and broadcasting vibes that can't be denied. Like the ancient CD by the Black Eyed Peas:
"They say I’m really sexy, The boys they wanna sex me.
They always standing next to me, Always dancing next to me,
U can look but you can’t touch it, If u touch it
I’ma start some drama, You don’t want no drama, No, no drama, no, no, no, no
drama
So don’t pull on my hand boy, You ain’t my man, boy, I’m just tryn’a dance
boy."
This is significant. And universal. Hanging at the Mall and hollering at hotties is an old school tradition that has not only made it into the New Millenium and pop/snap tuneage - it's global.
Like in Saudi Land. Ancient Kingdom with Princes and Kings (yet rarely a mention of queens, princesess - or even Mother's Day - weird), fully stocked on antique Holy Places, oil and fixing to bust wide open with kids.
Over 21 million pop - nearly half are 15 and younger. A lit rate of 78.8% (to be precise) with an estimated 4.7 million on a semi censored internet. Like all despotries - control is essential.
"The internet has destroyed constraints and given the younger generation ofDanger! Danger! In addition to the secret police, the internet police and political police - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also deploys agents from (get this here now) "The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice."
Arabs an opportunity to link up to the outside world, and give their opinions on
local and international issues.
Blogs have now appeared to add an important new dimension. They have created a generation of "citizen journalists" who are in contact with each other, conduct impromptu dialogue, and see that their opinions reach anywhere in the world where those interested in such opinions can be found."
"The morality police, whom Saudis sometimes derisively refer to as the
"Taliban," are notorious for committing excesses in their fervor for enforcing
the Kingdom's puritanical Wahhabi brand of Islam.
Typically, squads of mutaween patrol streets and shopping malls, caning shopkeepers who fail to shutter their doors at prayer time, scolding women who allow flesh to show from under their mandatory black gowns, and lecturing adolescent boys caught following or talking to girls.
By the commission's reckoning, its members "correct" the behavior of
800,000 people a year. "
These cats (they REALLY hate the color red too), mostly volunteer, patrol the Kingdom and make sure lottie dottie everybody conforms to an almost medievel conduct code. A kind of Combo Police they busybody their way all the way into nearly every aspect of life.
Fashion Police, Mingling Police- these Anti Fun Adjutants perform 'policing' that ranges from dress codes, making sure all the guys pray 5 times a day (unverified reports claim they harass guys that wear lace up shoes and wicked western style ties - after all how can they pray so often with all that restrictive gear on?)
From retarded ideas of a Holy Dress Code to dangerous unholy acts like girls driving cars. These volunteer enforcers don't miss a thing and tend to punish more than protect - the very perversion of the word 'police'.
Like all the cool guys hanging at Mecca Mall in the Holiest City in a 1200Km range
"The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice began
interrogating 57 men Saturday (23 Feb '08) who were arrested after allegedly flirting with women in front of a shopping mall in the holy city of Mecca, alleging behavior that included dancing to pop music blaring from their cars and wearing improper
clothing."
Oh Snap! Since the guys behaviour is, well - uh, totally normal maybe? - what is a h'jabed hottie to do in an alledgedly abnormal society?
Locked away in their rooms - unable to 'mingle' in public or use their secret weapons to get their hooks into guys at the mall or anywhere else - they are high tech hootchies - using webcams to netcast naughty teases on line to an army of frustrated (in more ways than one) guys from all over the ME - not just the uncool controlled kingdom.
I saw a report like this one a few months ago. It's odd how backward the Islamic world is with their panicky reports of Internet stripping as if they thought men spent time on the Internet researching thesis papers. At the same time there's never a report about how awful beheading videos are.
ReplyDeleteOne of my early posts is titled YouTube, Snuff Films and Underage Girls and I get a good number of traffic to it still. Mostly perverts looking up some combo of the words "Snuff" "Underage" and "Rape", ironically the majority of those searches come form the middle east.
I can however agree with one thing they are doing ... down with the evil western ties!!!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, is there any doubt that all theocratic societies end up being represive? Look at the Puritans in our own history ... do you really believe those women were really witches?
their's is a society that fears women. why else would they need to repress them? great post, courtney!
ReplyDeleteThe color red should become our color. Red for Conservatives, for Republicans, for sexy nighties, tormenting the Saudi men, ...

Right Truth
Actually Paul there's evidence that one or more of the African slaves were practicing Voodoo like rituals and I heard an interesting theory once where it was claimed that the girls were dabbling in Voodoo with the slaves then started accusing random people when they got caught to throw folks off.
ReplyDeleteBut I doubt there where witches, and there were voices in that community defending those accused, where are the voices in the Muslim world?
Well the drama has only just begun, and it's unstoppable. The commission may be correcting the "behavior of 800,000 people a year' now, but in five years unless there correcting the natural tendencies of around 8 million per year!! They'll be behind the eight ball.
ReplyDeleteHi Heckfire, Thanks for coming by. Yeah, Jadi wrote a while back that the most searched for words online in Qom (The Persian Versian of Najaf) where words that would take you to all those uh naughty sites. There is def a dual standard in these repressed and repressive regimes. The internet will be the regime changer of the future.
ReplyDeleteI get about 20 hits a day from foreign search engines looking for 'Pakistan girlfriend' or 'Persian girlfriend' nothing wicked mind you - just proves 'the mingling police' are strangling their young - and in nations with a huge youth pop too.
Hi Paul, aw come on those ties aren't that bad are they?
ReplyDeleteGreat point about theocracies - though Sharansky perhaps said it best - that all unfree regimes need external enemies AND internal enemies to survive. Like dissidents and witches I reckon.
Heidianne! Hey Girl! Man, have I missed you. Please start writing again real soon. I am tickled you came by here.
ReplyDeleteReckon since they have little control over their own lives that they accept the control over their womenfolk as a trade off?
Thanks for the praise.
Hi Debbie - I hear you Red Red Red. I just got some blood red nail polish too in honour of dissing the committee.
ReplyDeleteIn that video - which is really tame - it's like a TV show report over there - they show undies being thrown in a pile - of course you can guess what color they are - Candy apple red of course!
Hey there Otto! Yeah - thats the thing - all the ME is fixing to bust wide open with young people. And that makes the case for constant confrontation with unfree, illegitimate, unelected regimes.
ReplyDeleteWhy run away now when the Allies can really solve a lot of future probs now by maintaining the willpower, stayingpower and if need be - the firepower to knock out these unhappy tormenters of their own people.
The old ME is creaking in the wind and will soon collapse.
