An article of faith among the faithful - is that Donkey Party has never been all that serious about defense type goodies or terms like 'victory', 'winning' or 'Surge.'
It's true! Certain elements in that political party seem to fret more about terrorists and their comfyness and rights or indulge in boring, inappropriate - weak - handwringing than worthy goals and aims.
"Liberals bailed from the war with an almost comical desperation. They professed to have just discovered that Hamid Karzai is corrupt. That al-Qaeda is mostly across the border in Pakistan. That waging a war of counterinsurgency in one of the poorest, most illiterate countries in the world is a trying and complex endeavor."
While 44's shout out about Afghanistan does contain some hot! sweet booty
"And we must make it clear to every man, woman and child around the world who lives under the dark cloud of tyranny that America will speak out on behalf of their human rights, and tend to the light of freedom, and justice, and opportunity, and respect for the dignity of all peoples. That is who we are. That is the moral source of America's authority."
it seems awful suspect, especially considering the suckish Bystander In Chief maneuver during Iran's fakebelieve elections when an illegit regime killed their own people in the street.
The over all effect is kinda underwhelming and a bit of a let down.
"On one of the gravest strategic issues of our time, the golden orator of our political scene labored through his compulsories to make the case for why we should win a war that if we lose will invigorate the jihadist cause, put untenable pressure on the governments of Pakistan and India (to say nothing of the tragedy for Afghanistan), potentially put al-Qaeda in possession of nuclear weapons, and increase the risk of future attacks on our homeland.
"It was not a performance that will give heart to Afghans, countries in the region whose security depends on our success, or allies with forces committed to this fight.
"Toward the end of his speech, the president spoke of “might and moral suasion,” which turn out to be the only tools of American power three months of additional review. We still don’t have a strategy for Afghanistan. We only have a military strategy for Afghanistan.
"Where was the “dramatic increase in our civilian effort” the president promised in March?
"There were literally no political, economic, agricultural, judicial, drug enforcement, or educational programs included in the president’s speech. When he spoke briefly of non-military matters, it was only to press for reforms of the Karzai government.
"And the president asked for no effort from the 99 percent of Americans who are not in our military. We are still not a country at war, we are a military at war.
"The president kept 68,000 soldiers and Marines in harm’s way while he pondered whether it merited his political capital to pay the ticket price of his grand rhetoric about this good war, this war of necessity, that had been scandalously under-resourced.
"Afghanistan remains all of those things, even after the president’s “new” new Afghan strategy.

"GOD DAMN AMERICA!!!"--Ogabe's spiritual mentor of 20 years
Obamble's policies are going to fail, big time.
so he took 92 days to piss off everyone except to give aid and quarter to those whom we're fighting?
- the left wanted all the troops home, now. he sent 30k more.
- the generals on the ground (and those of us who support them) wanted a minimum of 42k troops but 70k would be best. he sent 30k more.
- he gave our enemies the plan for when we would be leaving and how.
yep, makes for a perfect strategy if you're leaning towards the side of the muslims. hey! isn't that what he promised he'd do in his book?!?
Someone whom I can not remember once said "The military is trained to kill people and destroy things. If you do not want them to kill people and destroy things do not send them." I have heard that our troops are limited in their use of artillary and air support because the administration wants to limit civilian casualties. Our troops should not have to fight and die without the use of total superior force. Treat Afghanistan like Gen. Sherman treated Atlanta. SCORCHED EARTH BABY!!!
