“Conceptual Withdrawal”

Fidelis et verus!

“We have moved from a narrative, which lasted for years, that everything was fine when it wasn’t to a narrative that everything is going wrong when it isn’t.”

July has been the deadliest month of the war in AFPAK - followed by June. And Great Satan's full strength in boots on the ground yet to appear.

True enough! Yet certain elements are prepping plans for the day combat ops end:

"...Post-counterinsurgency — Afghanistan: yes, the Taliban are patiently preparing; many among the local population are preparing; probably the current regime in Afghanistan is preparing; certainly Pakistani intelligence is hedging its bets in the shadows. But what about Washington? What about London and Berlin?

Amazing.

Despite faithless Wikileaks, AFPAK is winnable, especially in the sense that Great Satan and all her hot! NATO BFF's can create an Afghanistan that can stand on its own, that ultimately is going to be able to secure its own territory, not provide a safe haven for terrorists, and not drag down the security of the entire region

Worried Great Satan doesn't have enough troops in Afghanistan?

I hear he's taking volunteers.

The will to win is extremely important. Leadership is always important. Even mediocre strategies if done in a clear and swift manner can yield better results than a brilliant strategy by an uninspiring and plodding leader.

Once you show a lack of the will to win a war, and a lack of leadership, you almost inevitably start losing. The troops are slow in coming (as was the choice to send them), clearly the administration is led by someone with bad ideas when it comes to winning wars... Obama fortunately wasn't able to completely wreck things in Iraq, but he's giving it the old college try in Afghanistan.
